Deputy min says operators’ request on 5G JV at final antitrust stage

MOSCOW, Oct 2 (PRIME) -- An application of Russian connection operators to create a joint venture to develop 5G in the country is at the final stage of consideration by the Federal Antimonopoly Service, Deputy Digital Development Minister Oleg Ivanov told reporters on Friday.

“Now, as far as I know, all materials are with the Federal Antimonopoly Service. As soon as the colleagues finish, there will be a final version of a joint venture. The operators have some disagreements…But the documents are already on paper,” Ivanov said.

If such a joint venture is set up, there will be no reason for the government to interfere with its work. “I’m a partisan of the situation when the joint venture gets frequencies and then they will decide on interaction and distribution of responsibilities, incomes and others themselves,” the official said.

The operators will be able to develop 5G on 4.8–4.9 GHz, 25.25–27.50 GHz, and there is some room in the band of 800 MHz, he said.
